“ I expected good, rich food and I wasn't disappointed. I got this lamb stew the other day that I honestly can't stop thinking about. I'm probably going to head back there now to get more. ”

“ Best Yemeni restaurant. I was about to add another clause to the first sentence, but I've never been to another Yemeni restaurant. I only recently discovered Yemeni coffee and tea. So, I needed help from the Intertubes and the only other customer in the place, a Saudi immigrant. And the two workers there, must have been owner or owners. The problem was that they were both Yemeni, and really couldn't describe the different food they have to someone like me who never had had Yemeni food before, but the Saudi fellow was helpful especially in that he was eating his Lamb Mendi (I don't know why it's spelled with an a, the pronunciation is an short e sound) like it was the most delicious thing he ever had. So I got the other kind of lamb, there are three kinds and you just need to try the two they have (they don't have the middle kind, not sure why) because Yemeni food is pretty unique. And extremely tasty. They, like South Asians, eat with the right hand, and you shouldn't turn the dish once you start (come at it from the same right handed direction your whole meal). Although at home they share family style, these portions are each for a single diner, and even though I came with three other people I most certainly would not share. Too good to share. There are a couple of vegetarian dishes which are vegan, but not the soup (it's a meat based stock). I can't speak to the authenticity as this is the only Yemeni restaurant for kilometers around, but the Saudi fellow said it's authentic and he had been to Yemen. It is certainly very edible with a combination of spices and flavors that aren't quite like anything else. Maybe the distant cousin, cuisine wise, of Eastern Mediterranean, Northern South Asian, Middle Eastern cuisines, but definitely unique. What is not unique is the ubiquitous Arab-Muslim friendly gregarious hospitality. It's a modest storefront, which just doesn't matter when the food is this good. ”

“ Milwaukee is lucky to have one of only a handful of Yemeni restaurants in the U.S. This one definitely stacks up with others I've had in the DC region, with all the standard dishes like Chicken Mandi and Lamb Fahsa, in addition to a few other American sandwiches and appetizers. Yemeni food is a bit different from the usual Middle-Eastern dishes at other places - they're really into spicy stews served in hot stone dishes, and slow-braised or roasted meats over rice. The owner is very friendly and hospitable, so check the place out. ”

“ My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant during a road trip south of Milwaukee. The restaurant was very unpretentious, the menu was not particularly large, and we were not familiar with most of the dishes being offered. The owner, however, was very genuine and helpful and we decided to give it a try. That turned out to be a wonderful decision. Service was very fast. The food was delicious and the portions were large. The lamb and chicken were fall off the bone tender and the spice mixture used in preparing the food was unique to us and we loved it. We strongly recommend giving this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed. ”
